Abstract

Mitral valve regurgitation is the second most common valvular heart disease in adults and is a progressive disease associated with reduced life expectancy. The mitral clip procedure is a percutaneous intervention to reduce mitral regurgitation and is a potential alternative to medical or surgical treatment.

A total of 1 RCT (n=279) of percutaneous mitral valve repair using the mitral clip compared with surgery or 3 RCTs (n=952) compared with medical therapy were identified. The evidence suggests that the mitral clip is less effective than surgery. The trials showed inconsistent results compared with medical therapy. Therefore, it is not possible to conclude whether percutaneous mitral valve repair with the mitral clip is more effective than optimal medical therapy alone.
