Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a chronic, degenerative joint disease. Intra-articular injections allow substances to be administered directly into the joint space. The AIHTA assessed the effectiveness and safety of intra-articular therapy with corticosteroids or hyaluronic acid in adult patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder or hip, compared with other treatments, placebo or no treatment. The assessment also examined relevant organisational considerations and reviewed the recommendations of international high-quality clinical guidelines on this topic.
