Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a rare primary myocardial disease with a prevalence of 0.2%. HCM is hereditary and frequently appears in fa-milial clusters. In a portion of the patients (approx. 70%) it results, under exertion, to an obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract: hypertrophic-obstructive cardiomyopathy/HOCM. HOCM is associated with sudden car-diac death. In addition to conventional methods (medicines), interventional or operative methods are also applied in the treatment of symptomatic HOCM patients.
