Abstract

A hybrid operating room is a surgical theatre that is equipped with advanced medical imaging devices such as fixed computer tomography/CT, Magnetic resonance tomography/MRT and angiography. Hybrid operating rooms are currently mainly used in cardiac, vascular and neuro-surgery but could be suitable for a number of other surgical disciplines. The actual use of (highly expensive) hybrid operating rooms is very much defined by the mandate of its use and is characterised by the interdisciplinary culture and work-organisation of a clinic.
