Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to forecast effectiveness and cost effectiveness of different HPV vaccination programs in Austria.

Method: In addition to a systematic literature review, long term health effects and costs have been analysed with a dynamic transmission model which has been adapted and validated for the Austrian context. 3 different prevention strategies with varying assumptions on vaccination coverage, effectiveness and duration of protection have been evaluated: 1. “screening only” – the current standard treatment, 2. vaccination of 12-year-old girls in addition to screening, 3. vaccination of 12-year-old girls and boys in addition to screening.
